The Odessa

Every house has a first object. Ours is a shoe.

The Odessa is a Goodyear-welted sneaker built the way footwear used to be built: to be taken apart, repaired, and resoled, so it evolves with the wearer instead of being thrown away. Underneath its calm, classic silhouette sits a layer of cork between the insole and the welt, which gives way as you wear the shoe and takes the shape of your foot.

Every pair is handmade in Portugal, close to the people who make it. European cow leather uppers, smooth and suede, tanned in Alcanena and dyed in small batches. A sole of leather, rubber and Vibram. Components chosen because we can stand behind where they came from, not because they were convenient.

We release our pieces the way a book is printed. The Odessa is the title. Edition 001 is the first printing: three colourways (Noir, Crème and Rose) of forty pairs each, hand-numbered within their colourway. When the last pair of a colourway is collected, that edition closes. There will not be a forty-first.

Later editions of the Odessa may follow, with small revisions to material or detail. They will be their own printing. Edition 001 will not return.

This is also why we don't call it sold. We call it collected. A piece leaves our archive and enters someone else's life: numbered, catalogued, and, we hope, worn for a long time.
