Conscious hedonism is the pursuit of pleasure and enjoyment in a thoughtful, intentional, and ethical way. It emphasises finding joy in experiences or products that align with personal values, such as sustainability, well-being, and mindful consumption, rather than indulging in excess or instant gratification. It is about savouring life while being aware of its impact on oneself, others, and the planet.
Made to last
We see “innovation” in garments as using proven technology in smarter ways. Think classic shoemaking methods applied to modern silhouettes, like a Goodyear-welted sneaker: built to be taken apart, repaired, and resoled, so the product can evolve with the wearer instead of being thrown away.
In the same spirit, we hide modern performance inside timeless shapes, like performance rubber and Vibram soles. The outside stays calm and classic, while the inside feels lighter, more stable, and more comfortable. The result is footwear that lasts longer, performs better, and fits a “buy less, choose well” mindset.
Human-made
Every piece starts and ends with people. Our pieces are designed, patterned, sampled, and produced through human craft and real-world decisions, not automated creation. You can feel it in the details, the fit, and the finish, because time and care are built into the process.
It also means our brand imagery is made in the same spirit. We use real products, real shoots, and real creative teams instead of AI-generated visuals.
Gender-free
We are gender-free because it matches what Cárte Crème stands for: individualism over labels and good design over categories. The pieces are built around silhouette, proportion, and function, so anyone can wear them without being pushed into categories.
It also fits a calmer, more mindful way of consuming: fewer rules, fewer divisions, and a wardrobe chosen for taste and utility.

Europe has a long history of shoemaking, tailoring, and textile mills where durability, construction, and repair are part of the product. Europe’s greatest strength has never been scale — it has been design and innovation. And European style has strong ties to art, atelier culture, and everyday elegance, framing garments like curated objects, meant to be lived with, not disposed of.
Made in Europe
An important feature of Cárte Crème’s pieces is that, from product to packaging, they are entirely designed and produced within the EU. We work to verify this as far into the supply chain as possible. We have several reasons for this choice, the most important of which is sustainability.
“Made in Europe” is a conscious choice for Cárte Crème. It lets us stay close to the people who make our pieces, keep quality tight, and be more open about where things come from and how they are made. It also makes smaller, limited runs easier, so we can avoid overproduction and focus on fewer pieces that are made to last.
Portugal
Cárte Crème is produced in Portugal, a country with a long tradition in shoemaking and specialised workshops that have passed down their knowledge for generations. We make this choice deliberately: we prefer to work with craftspeople who understand precision and handwork. It is also our way of preserving craftsmanship and quality, and giving something of that back to you in every pair you wear.
Because we produce in Portugal, the distance between our design and the workshop stays small. We can work closely with the makers, adjust quickly during the production process, and safeguard the quality you expect from us.
Designed in-house
Our pieces are designed in-house, which means the creative direction stays consistent from the first sketch to the final silhouette. We develop the proportions, details, and functionality ourselves, so every piece feels unmistakably Cárte Crème: intentional, refined, and built around real wear.
In-house design also lets us be more deliberate about materials and construction choices. It supports smaller runs and tighter quality control, because the product is not just sourced or assembled from trends. It is authored.
Materials
Our raw materials are, without compromise, of high quality, and are produced and sourced as locally as possible within the EU. Where it genuinely offers sustainability benefits, we buy in small batches, to prevent overproduction at every stage of the process. We keep asking ourselves whether the process can be improved further.
Our pieces are extensively tested and refined in shape and material, so they last as long as possible.
By “ethical,” we mean materials that are sourced in ways that respect people, animals, and the environment, and that we can verify through real suppliers, clear documentation, and credible standards: responsible sourcing that supports fair and safe working conditions across the supply chain, lower-impact choices where possible, animal welfare standards when animal-derived materials are involved, and traceability we can stand behind.
Packaging
We choose locally sourced packaging because it supports the same way we want to operate: with care, transparency, and less waste built into the full experience. By “locally sourced,” we mean packaging that is produced and or finished close to our production and fulfilment, using suppliers we can actually know and verify, instead of anonymous, long-distance sourcing.
Released in a catalogue
Our pieces are treated like collectible objects. Like books, every piece belongs to an edition and carries a unique number, so ownership feels specific, traceable, and intentional.
Editions are produced in defined quantities, then closed. No endless restocks. Each item is marked with its unique number to emphasise rarity and provenance, and pieces are named like entries in an archive, not seasonal collections.
Shoe repair
Shoes that, after prolonged use, are due for a new sole can be sent back to us for resoling and the repair of any damage. This is possible thanks to the Goodyear welt used in the sole construction, which allows us to give your shoes a completely new sole without you having to replace them.
Objective for the future
Our objective is to take back worn pairs, repair them, and offer them again.
